NOTES:
Power and symphonic metal giants Nightwish and Sabaton cross the pond to energize the masses at their sold out show in Chicago.

On the heels of their newly released LP, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, Nightwish is currently on a tour of North America and is conquering the majority of the globe for the rest of the year. Their new lead vocalist, Floor Jansen (ex-After Forever), has proven that she not only fits into the fold of the band’s already existing material lasting nearly two decades now, but she also stakes her claim in making new material on her own.

The band’s stage presence went unparalleled as their performance lasted nearly two hours with a set list that complimented not only the new album, but a few old B-sides for the most loyal of fans. The timing and chemistry of the band gels together perfectly and their collaborative energy shines through their bright solos and theatrical musicianship. They left the crowd roaring for more.

Providing direct support to Nightwish was Sweden’s own Sabaton. The kings of WWII-themed power metal are no strangers to stage banter and are well certified in knowing how to light up a crowd with their heavy, history-laden song catalog and hard-hitting rhythms. They revved up the night in no time with tracks such as, “Soldier of 3 Armies,” as well as the always needed and revered, “Primo Victoria.” In thunder and war, Sabaton is guaranteed to bring mighty salvation to any concert.

Starting the night off right was the Netherlands’ Delain. This opening act brought plenty of their own loyal fanfare to the evening with many a patron singing along.
